Website Updates and December Workshop Photos

I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday! First, there are a couple of large updates to the website to tell you about:

  • The Guild Trips & Retreats page has been updated with all the information about our next trip to Elim Lodge in October 2013. Ingrid will be taking the first deposit at our January general meeting, so now is the time to start thinking about it!
  • The Program & Speakers page is now up to date with all the scheduled speakers and activities for the rest of the year. Please note that during the month of January Sally will be taking table reservations for the February Garage Sale. Or, as always, you may email us at and your email will be forwarded to the correct person.
Our first workshop of the year was on December 1, 2012 with Kelly Dumaresq, who was back to teach more of the Square-in-a-Square technique:

Our fearless teacher, Kelly!
Anything but square, that's what the Square-in-a-Square workshop was. Although we had a few initial bumps in the setting up in our new location, a good time was had by all!  Thank you to everyone for your patience.

Samples of the most popular "options" of the technique were completed.

This quilt that Kelly showed was particularly memorable:

Hopefully Kelly left everyone with enough skills that we will see some finished projects at the January general meeting!

The next RVQG workshop will be February 16, 2013, when Trisha DellaVella and Mary Eeg will demonstrate their Colourplay Weekender Bag. Please visit the Workshops page to read more.

Happy sewing everyone!

Our Children's Placemats are a Hit!

Here's Barb, who volunteers at Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital in Scarborough, receiving the 42 placemats (25 from the Presidents' Challenge, and an additional 17 made for Quilts from the Heart with children's fabric) that were donated by our guild:

The day after our Co-President Chris dropped them off, she received a phone call saying that a little boy had come in for a needle and was crying. They gave him one of the placemats and while he was looking at it, they gave him the needle and he didn't even notice it happening as he was so enthralled with the placemat! I hope all your gifts this year will be as well received!

Thanks again to everyone who participated. Happy holidays everyone!
