Happy sewing everyone!

September Meeting Summary

We had a full house for our first General Meeting of the year yesterday. It was great to see everyone again! Our featured speaker, Lisa Hill of Soft Impressions, brought three long tables full of new and useful quilting and sewing notions. Everyone appreciated the fact that Lisa had used many of them herself. Judging from the long line at the cash register during the break and even after the meeting ended, many members went home with a new gadget to try!

On display at the Block of the Month table were the six blocks from last year, as well as the latest Fall Leaves block (in the upper lefthand corner):

If you didn't get your copy of the new pattern, you can find it on the updated Block of the Month page here.

Janet and Terry also announced the project for the first Bee Night on October 15.  Participants will use their own fabrics to make a sewing machine mat like this one:

There are still a few spaces left for Bee Night, so contact Janet or Terry to sign up. There is a bit of homework to do before the night.

Co-Presidents Chris and Laura announced their President's Challenge for this year. The theme is Children's Literature. Members are invited to make a childrens' placemat inspired by a favourite childrens' book, poem, or song, and bring it to our November meeting. The winner will be selected by Viewers' Choice, and all members at the meeting will have the chance to vote on their favourite.

Our Vice President and Special Projects Co-ordinator Nicole announced that the trip to Paducah next April has been cancelled, and another trip is proposed instead.  The full details will be posted soon.

We are still looking for a Workshop Convenor. Irene, who has kindly stepped in to help organize our October workshop with Martha Schellingerhoud, announced that there seems to be more interest in a week day workshop rather than the Saturday one. So the date for that may change, stay tuned for further details.

Librarian Frances reminded everyone to bring any overdue library books to the next meeting. Anyone who still has an overdue book after that will have their name posted on the dreaded list in the November newsletter!

Membership Convenors Sylvia and Hetty let us know that we are already up to around 180 members, and that several new members have joined the Guild. Our membership for the year is capped at 200, so if you or any of your friends are still intending to join, don't delay!

Carole, who is managing our Quilts from the Heart project this year, has a few quilt tops that need quilting.  Batting and backing will be provided, so please contact her if you can help out.

Finally, we had a great turn out for Show & Tell. Watch this space for the photos next week.

See you next time!

Workshop Convenor

Our Guild is now looking for someone to step into the Workshop Convenor position for this year and next. This is a great job for two people to do together, as it requires a car and carrying the workshop supplies from their storage place at Altona Road to the workshop venue.

We have one workshop for the end of October already organized, but after that there will be no further workshops until the position is filled. Please click here to read the full job description. Anyone who is interested or who would like more information, can email us at rvqginfo@gmail.com, or contact our Co-President Chris directly.

As you know, our Guild is run entirely by volunteers, so here's your chance to bring in some of the teachers that you'd like to see at the Guild!

September 15 Workshop Cancelled

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our September 15 Workshop, Scrap Magic, due to low enrollment.  Any members who have already paid for the workshop should contact our Co-President Chris to arrange a refund.  She will be distributing the refund cheques at the first General Meeting on September 24, 2012.
